CMA 3rd Floor Service Desk
Laptops Available For Checkout
There are MacBook laptops available for checkout at CMA’s 3rd floor service desk. They are available to current UT faculty and staff and to any student enrolled in classes for the current semester. The laptops are dual-boot - meaning they can either come up in Mac OS X or into Windows XP when you turn them on. You choose.
[Important note: Any files left on the laptop’s desktop will be deleted upon restart.
DO NOT LEAVE ANY FILES ON THE DESKTOP.
REMOVE YOUR FILES BEFORE YOU SHUTDOWN OR RESTART.]
Checkout Policies
The Laptops are available on a first come-first served basis.
Advance reservations in WEBCHECKOUT are not possible.
They can only be checked out for 24 hours at a time.
You must present a valid UT ID card at time of checkout.
Renewing - Checkouts can be renewed for another 24 hours. However, it must be done IN PERSON, and CAN NOT be done over the phone. Bring back the laptop you have checked out before the original return time, and we can see at that point whether it is possible to check it out to you again. Renewals of a particular item are always based on availability. Future reservations can not be made for the same item back to back in place of a renewal. To check out the same item back to back a conventional renewal must be made.
Penalties
It is our responsibility to have the equipment available for people at the time they reserved it and that it be working. As a result, we have penalties in place to help make sure that is the case.
For Lateness - If an item is returned late the person who had it checked out is given an explanation of the checkout procedures. In addition, that person is advised that while they can continue to checkout equipment, THE NEXT TIME that they return something late, broken, or incomplete they will lose their checkout privileges for the rest of the semester. If the 2nd infraction takes place during the last 4 weeks of the semester, they lose their privileges for the rest of that semester and the following semester.
Lost or broken – If an item laptop is lost or broken, the patron’s checkout privileges are immediately suspended until the patron finds, replaces, or has the laptop repaired. A financial and registration bar will be placed upon the patron if compensation has not been made BEFORE the start of the next semester.
