Advertising & Public Relations
Texas Advertising is distinguished in all facets of university and professional life. Members of our faculty have authored a number of books that are used in business and at universities throughout the world. They are continually active in studying and researching issues of professional and academic importance, and the results of these investigations appear in published literature and are presented at professional meetings. The breadth and depth of their knowledge and experience enriches the classroom and permits students to learn first hand of the critical issues in advertising.
Communication Studies
Communication Studies seeks to understand communication and to improve its practice in a variety of relationships. We focus on two person and family communication, communication in small groups and in large organizations, communication across communities, the nature of language and symbols, and the nature of argument and persuasion in political settings and in social movements. We are proud of the teaching, research, and professional contributions of our faculty.
Communication Sciences and Disorders
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders teaches students to understand and treat the challenges inherent in speech and language impairments throughout the entire lifespan of human development from early childhood through the elder years. We encourage our students to develop a holistic understanding of the communication process and to investigate new ways to expand the mind’s potential to formulate, absorb, and express ideas.
Journalism
The School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin has long been recognized as a leader in journalism education, due in large part to the quality of its distinguished faculty members. The faculty and adjunct faculty, which include internationally renowned scholars, have diverse backgrounds and extensive experience in the fields of print, broadcast, photojournalism and multimedia journalism. They hold leadership positions in national and international organizations and serve as editors, editorial board members and contributors to the top journals in the field.
Radio-Television-Film
The Department of Radio-Television-Film faculty members include renowned, award winning scholars and artists from both the Media Studies and Media Production fields. The scholarly and teaching interests of the Studies faculty focus on the cultural, social, economic, policy, technological, political and discursive settings in which communication systems, industries, texts and audiences exist and operate. The Production faculty are working directors, writers, producers, editors, cinematographers, composers and sound designers. The Department currently has twenty-eight faculty members who provide an environment in which students receive optimal opportunity for study, research, teaching and the production of creative work. In addition to the work done outside the University, faculty members from both fields routinely win teaching awards associated with their time in the classroom.
