Communication Career Services (CCS) has established an annual fund to provide financial support for the career development activities of College of Communication students active in UT student organizations and registered with CCS. These funds are awarded on a competitive basis once each semester in the form of grants.
Availability
Fall Application Deadline: 5:00 pm, Thursday, September 10, 2009 | Grant award recipients announced: By 5:00 pm on Friday, September 18, 2009
Spring Application Deadline: 5:00 pm, Thursday, February 4, 2010 | Grant award recipients announced: By 5:00 pm on Friday, February 12, 2010
Eligibility
Activity for which funding is sought must be career development, job development or professional networking related, and must be specifically related to the applicant's major field of study and/or defined career interests. Funds will not be awarded to support tuition, class-related fees or events.
Applicant(s) must be:
- Currently enrolled full-time in UT as a student in the College of Communication. Grant recipients must use money prior to graduation.
- Currently registered with Communication Career Services.
- Affiliated with a student organization registered with The University of Texas at Austin.
- Endorsed by a member of the UT College of Communication faculty or staff
Grant Amount
Grants of up to $500.00 per applicant are available. Grants are available to individual students only.
Submission Requirements
To apply for a grant, submit the following application package:
- A completed application form.
- Your responses to the following questions:
- How much money are you requesting and what do you propose to do with these funds? Please provide a detailed budget estimate with supporting documentation and/or research.
- What do you hope to learn or accomplish from doing this activity?
- Why is it important for you to learn or accomplish this?
- A current version of your resume.
Applications must be received at the main reception desk of Communication Career Services (CMA 3.102) by 5:00 pm on the respective application deadline date. Email Debbie Kubena at dkubena@austin.utexas.edu prior to the application deadline if you have any questions.
Evaluation Process
Each complete grant application is reviewed based on the following criteria: Proposed activity and budget estimate, statement of learning objectives and rationale for request, academic performance, co-curricular involvement, resume, and overall quality of application.
Individual judge’s scores are averaged, and applications are ranked according to this average score.
Final Report
Within 30 days of completion of activity, you will be required to submit a 1-2 page summary report responding to the following questions:
- How did you use the money?
- What did you learn or accomplish from doing this activity?
- How did the actual cost of this activity differ from what you had originally planned/budgeted? What did you learn from this?
- How has this experience impacted your career plans?
