Ann Sutherland Chappell
1997
Ann Sutherland Chappell is the Coordinator of the Habitat for Humanity Council of North Central Texas. The Council fosters collaboration between and among the 13 local affiliates in North Central Texas and hosts an annual blitz build with the Texas Rangers at the Ballpark in Arlington.
David M. Weeks
2007-2008
With more than 35 years of experience in political and corporate consulting, David Weeks has advised Fortune 500 companies, handled media relations and public relations across the country, and has served as media consultant in political campaigns ranging from city council to the United States Senate.
Mark Pannes
2008-2009
A graduate of the College of Communication at the University of Texas in 1991 with Special Honors and as a William Randolph Hearst Fellow, Mark has devoted his career to working in the sports and entertainment sector.
Dr. Elizabeth Carrow-Woolfolk
2005-2006
Dr. Elizabeth Carrow-Woolfolk, (MA '50), who has improved the lives of thousands of children around the world through her work in understanding and treating language disorders, was named University of Texas College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus for 2005-06. "Betty, who headed the speech pathology and audiology program here at The University of Texas at Austin from 1973-74, has dedicated her career, not only to enhancing the lives of children with language disorders, but to educating society about how children learn to speak and read," said Dr. Roderick P. Hart, dean of the College of Communication. "She has left an indelible mark."
Bruce Hendricks
2006-2007
Walt Disney Studios production executive Bruce Hendricks (B.S. ’76) is the 2006-2007 College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus. Hendricks, who serves as president of physical production for Walt Disney Studios, was recognized during the College of Communication Honors Day Convocation on March 23 at the Texas Union Ballroom.
Jeff Hunt
2004-2005
University of Texas alumnus and international public relations executive Jeff Hunt has been selected as the 2004-2005 College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus. Hunt, who serves as president and chief executive officer of GCI Read-Poland, one of the largest public relations firms in the world, will be recognized during a reception at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21 at The University of Texas Club.
Sarita Brown
2003-2004
University of Texas alumnus and Pew Hispanic Center Senior Fellow Sarita Brown has been selected as the 2003-04 College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus. She has also been named as the Graduate School’s Master of Arts Distinguished Alumnus for 2004. Ms. Brown has spent more than two decades working at national academic and educational institutions and at the highest levels of government working to raise academic achievement and opportunity for low-income and minority students.
Jim McDonald
2002-2003
A 27-year veteran of the world of advertising and marketing, Jim McDonald joined RadioShack in January of 1998 and serves today as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. Prior to joining RadioShack, Jim served for 4 years as the Senior VP and RadioShack’s Account Director for Young & Rubicam’s The Lord Group.
Jordan Levin
2001-2002
Jordan Levin joined The WB Network in 1994 as its first Head of Comedy Development and Current Programming. As the new network grew into prominence, so did Mr. Levin’s career,culminating with his appointment as the network’s President of Entertainment in June 2001, at the age of 33.
Tex Schramm
1999 - 2000
Tex Schramm graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Journalism in 1947 and worked as a sports writer with the Austin American-Statesman while enrolled at UT. Schramm moved on to handle public relations for the Los Angeles Rams, and by 1954, he became their general manager. He hired a promising young man to head his PR department, Pete Rozelle.
Patricia R. Cole
1998
Patricia R. Cole (deceased, 2001) graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Speech Pathology and Education, an M.A. in Communication Disorders, and a Ph.D. in Communication. She began her professional career as a speech and hearing therapist in Abilene public schools. In 1971, Cole helped found the Austin Center for Speech, Language, and Learning Disorders and served as co-director until 1984 when she became director.
