Dave Shaw

Dave Shaw (Austin, TX) is president of Russell/Shaw, an Austin-based integrated marketing firm. He has a broad range of marketing and communications experience that spans advertising, branding, public relations and public affairs work with companies such as Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, AT&T, AOL and H-E-B.
Dave has been a guest speaker in the University of Texas at Austin Department of Advertising and invited to appear as a communications expert on panels for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), American Marketing Association and the National Communications Association. His work at Russell/Shaw has been featured in PRWeek and recognized with industry awards from PRSA, the American Advertising Federation, Texas Public Relations Association and International Association of Business Communicators. Closer to home, Dave was behind the branding of Austin as “The Human Capital” as part of the Greater Austin Chamber’s Opportunity Austin economic development campaign.
Prior to co-founding Russell/Shaw in 2005, Dave was vice president at TateAustin. Before that he was with Temerlin McClain in Dallas and Public Strategies, Inc. in Austin.
In the community, Dave serves as a board member of Greenlights for NonProfit Success where he currently co-chairs the development committee. He is a board member of the Austin Public Library Foundation, where he previously served as board president and is currently a member of the executive committee. In 2008 the Austin Area Research Organization (AARO) selected Dave to participate in its McBee Fellowship program, and the University of Texas College of Communication named him to its Alumni Advisory Council. Dave also represents the UT College of Communication as a member of the Texas Exes Alumni Council.
Dave has previously served as a board member of Leadership Austin and YouthLaunch, and as PR Chair for the Texas Book Festival. He was appointed as a member of the City of Austin Public Library Commission by then-Council Member Will Wynn, and appointed to the Libraries for the Future Task Force by then-Mayor Kirk Watson. In 2002, the Young Men’s Business League and Young Women’s Alliance named Dave an Austin Under 40 award winner for community service.
Dave earned his M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
