Terry Hemeyer

Terry Hemeyer (Houston, TX) is the executive counsel to Pierpont Communications. He also is a senior lecturer on the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin and teaches crisis management in the Rice University Jones School MBA program.

Hemeyer has established and funded two College of Communication endowments, one to support the dean’s office and one to benefit the public relations program.

Terry is a published and hands on expert in corporate and litigation communication; media, government, employee and community relations; consumer marketing; and advertising and leadership methods. He has appeared on NBC’s Today Show, the Tonight Show and CBS’ 60-Minutes. His words have appeared in many national publications including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Business Week and USA Today.

Terry has served in top management for a Fortune 150 company and was the top communications executive for an international consumer services company. He has been an executive VP for Edelman Worldwide and worked in many roles for other prominent agencies. He served in the U. S. Air Force, was selected for the rank of colonel and received the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Hemeyer has advised the Carter White House and President George Herbert Walker Bush on communication and political issues.

Named Practitioner of the Year by the Texas Public Relations Association he also holds the “Eyes of Texas” award for service to The University of Texas. Recently, his communications group was selected as a “large corporate communications” team of the year in PR Week magazine’s national competition.

In addition to serving on the Advisory Council for the College of Communication, Hemeyer has served on the board of directors of the Association for Community Television (PBS) and as Associate Chairman of the American Cancer Society (South Texas).

Hemeyer’s education includes the Stanford University Graduate Business School Executive Program, an MA in communication from the University of Denver and a BS in education from The Ohio State University.
