Jeremy L. Halbreich

Jeremy L. Halbreich (Dallas, TX) is Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of AMERCOMM LLC and became Chairman of the Board and Interim CEO of the Sun-Times Media Group, Inc. in February of 2009. The Sun-Times Media Group publishes the Chicago Sun-Times, Pioneer Press, Southtown Star, Northwest Indiana Post Tribune and Fox Valley Publications.
From October 1998 through August 2008, he served as Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of American Consolidated Media, a company he founded. ACM owns and operates 104 local, community newspapers and related print media and web sites in ten states including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The company’s core strategy consists of identifying and acquiring under valued, under-managed or high growth potential newspaper properties and improving their operations through regional clustering as well as focused, aggressive and improved management. In February 2007, ACM sold to Macquarie Media Group, an ASX-listed, publicly-traded global media company based in Sydney, Australia.
Prior to founding American Consolidated Media, Halbreich spent 24 years with The Dallas Morning News, serving in a number of executive positions before being named president and general manager in 1991. As president and general manager, Halbreich was responsible for the management of the entire business operations of the newspaper, including advertising sales, circulation sales & distribution, marketing & promotion, finance, production, information management, public relations, research, new business development and new media. During his tenure, total newspaper revenues grew from $237 million to $477 million, while operating cash flow increased from $39 million to $170 million. Daily paid circulation grew from 412,868 to 521,162 and Sunday circulation grew from 611,716 to 795,030. The newspaper has ranked #1 in the U.S. for total full-run advertising volume since 1992. In addition, Halbreich’s direct responsibilities included oversight for Arlington Morning News (launched in 1996), DFW Suburban Newspapers and DFW Printing Co. (reorganized in 1997), and the Colleyville News and Times (purchased in 1997). Halbreich also directed the due diligence operations reviews for the acquisitions of daily newspapers in Owensboro and Henderson (KY), Riverside (CA), Providence (RI), and Bryan-College Station (TX).
Halbreich is active in civic affairs, and is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Dallas Museum of Art, the President’s Advisory Council of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, UT College of Communication Advisory Council and on the Honorary Board of Directors for the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. In addition, he is a member of several business and industry groups, serving on the Honorary Board of Directors of The Advertising Council, Inc., the board of LibreDigital, Inc. (formerly NewsStand, Inc.) of Austin, Texas, Vice Chairman and lead director of the board of the Victoria Publishing Company, Inc. of Victoria, Texas, and Chairman of the board of American Community Newspapers II LLC of Plano, Texas. He also serves on the Graduate Board of Directors of The Harvard Crimson, Inc.
Halbreich graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. He is also an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. While at Harvard, he was the business manager of The Harvard Crimson.
Halbreich and his wife Nancy reside in Dallas, Texas.
